This month's guest speaker is Chris Slane, a fine cartoonist of both the political and pictorial persuasion.
He's probably best known as the regular cartoonist for the New Zealand Listener and his stunning 1996 graphic novel 'Maui: Legends Of The Outcast', with writer Robert Sullivan. He's being busy recently, working on a series of educational comics based on Maori history as part of a learning resource for the Ministry of Education (see examples of these are featured in the poster above).
He'll be talking about his work and the varied career paths one must adapt to (storyboard artist, caricaturist, political cartoonist) to be a successful graphic artist. Definitely one to catch for the aspiring artist or illustrator.
The meeting will take place at the Whare Wananga room on the 2nd floor of the Auckland Central City Library, from 6pm to 8pm this Friday the 10th July.
-AK!
